A number of our families and their children recently headed to New York to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) – New York Conference.

Northside have been participating in MMUN conferences for many years, and this opportunity is available to children in Cycle 3 (9-12) and High School. Each year our school is involved in either the MMUN Conference in Rome or New York and students can choose to participate, with their families committing to a trip to the conference and often some small holiday adjoining the event given the distance being travelled.

We were all excited for the program to begin with the Flag Ceremony.  All the students attended the UN General Assembly in New York and sat in the hall to present their resolutions.  As you can see in the photos, everyone is having a great time. Even GeoKid made it to a giant screen in Times Square!

Over the weekend the MMUN Conference concluded. It was a great opportunity for those students who attended this event, and provided many once in a lifetime experiences for our students.

A highlight of the New York Conference is the students attending the United Nations General Assembly. This opportunity is becoming increasingly difficult for groups such as MMUN, especially given the size of the conference, over a 1000 students. All students got to sit in the General Assembly and selected students from each Committee room went to the podium to read through the resolution developed by their group. Aydan May, one of our students in Year 9 was selected and he did very well. We were so pleased to see him have this opportunity.

Over the past couple of days there were continued meetings in committee rooms, a cultural evening, disco event, visit to the UN and a closing ceremony.

Thank you to all those families and students who attended this conference, and we look forward to another conference in 2026, likely the Conference in Italy for students and families who wish to be involved in MMUN next year.More information for this opportunity in 2026 will be sent out in the coming months.
