Dr. Montessori believed passionately in peace education with children at the core.

In the mind of the child, we will find progress.’ Dr. Montessori

Children, 9  to 15 years of age, have a great interest in social justice and being agents of change. They want to help make the world a better place.

With this in mind,Northside Montessori Schoolstudents participate in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) framework – a simulation based of the United Nations General Assembly. Built into the curriculum, students adopt the viewpoint of different countries, research, write position papers on real word issues, deliver speeches and negotiate and collaborate to reach consensus. MMUN supports important outcomes In the Board of Studies syllabi in English, Human Society and Its Environment, Creative Arts, Mathematics and Science and Technology and its benefits are many. These include development of leadership skills, global awareness, empathy, research skills and critical thinking. MMUN allows students to develop an awareness of the universality of humans – and to the realisation that we are more alike than different. Our goal is to empower students as positive change makers and active citizens of the world.

Students at Northside also have the option of attending international MMUN conferences annually where they can explore world issues, such as peace and security, human rights, the environment, globalization, economic development and food and hunger together with Montessori students from around the world.
