School History

Northside Montessori School began in 1978 when the founding parents, unable to find a local Montessori school for their own children, were encouraged to ‘start their own’. Their determination to have a progressive and powerful education for children based on the proven scientific research of Dr Maria Montessori was to be become a reality.

With the formation of the Northside Montessori Society, the purchase of premises at 196 Bobbin Head Road and the hiring of a directress, two pre-primary classes commenced at ‘Stepping Stones”. The first primary classes were started in 1980 with the full primary program being offered in 1985.

Sound financial management and strong financial support of the school community permitted further capital acquisitions with expansion in enrolment numbers.

The primary program was relocated with the purchase of 42-44 Bobbin Head Road in 1987 and the pre-primary program expanded with the purchase of 198 Bobbin Head Road in 1988.

Further development and growth over time includes additional buildings at the Northside Campus, a car park providing off street parking and a bus bay facilitating public transport to and from the School.

In late 2014, the School re-developed the Stepping Stones campus at 196-198 Bobbin Head Road and opened a Montessori Long Day Care.
